The 9th National English Language Teachers and Lecturers (NELTAL) Conference 2017 was hosted by the Department of English, Faculty of Letters, Universitas Negeri Malang on 16 September 2017 under the theme ‘Promoting Autonomy in Language Learning’. The chairperson of the organizing committee was Dr. Nunung Suryati.
This conference aimed to provide teachers and lecturers of English with an academic forum to upgrade and refine their knowledge and skills. It also aimed to disseminate ideas and insights and share excellent practices relevant to the conference theme, autonomy in language learning.
The 9th NELTAL conference invited three prominent figures in English Language Teaching in Southeast Asia and beyond: Dr. Willy A. Renandya (National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore), Prof. Dr. Nenden Sri Lengkanawati (Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia, Bandung), and Dr. Maria Luz Vilches (Ateneo de Manila University, Philippines).
Around two hundred participants attended the one-day conference. They were teachers, lecturers and pre-service teachers from around Indonesia. The conference was a great success and most participants stayed until the programme ended at 04:45 p.m. A photo session of the plenary speakers, organizing committee and participants with their beaming faces was captured after the Chair OC’s closing speech, marking the end of this fruitful event.
We hope to see everyone again and many more academics in the field at the next year’s international conference hosted by the Department 🙂
